does anyone here work as a dispatcher?
I have always been into maps as a kid but I have been working as a dispatcher for many years now at a few different companies.
Mainly DirecTV, Comcast and now an HVAC company.
I study the Thomas Guide when I am bored and I even have the Digital Edition on my computer.
I know where the good doobie drives are.

Sat, October 15, 2005 - 3:03 PM(LTL trucking). It's internal IT development. I'm starting to intergrate our data with land use data and looking and development patterns. It's pretty cool, though over a lot of people's heads at work. They dig it, but don't really get it. -

Sat, October 15, 2005 - 3:14 PMThat is fucking cool. But I admit I'd be one of those people that dig it but don't really get it. Do you have anything to look at?

Too bad we don’t use any cool software, but I dispatch for the entire East Bay and don’t need any software to figure out how I am going to route my guys.
I also have one of those giant size East Bay Thomas Guides on my wall in the office incase I do wonder where some cut ass city like Canyon or Kensington is. -

Re: Dispatchers?
Fri, October 21, 2005 - 1:00 PMThere's an unbelievably wide array of uses for mapping software - probably more than I'd want to list here. One of things that keeps me interested in working with GIS is that there is so much cross over in the types of data that you can intermingle. For our dispatch system, we've been looking at cell phone coverage models overlayed on our proprietary routes to analyse issues with service on the driver hand helds. With our vehicles moving all over the place in hundreds of urban markets, I've wondered why the company hasn't been approached to TEST the accuracy or integrity of their coverage. I guess phone companies have an interest in protecting their ability to sell their service...
