    Greetings, fellow burners!

I may be a virgin, but I'm no slouch with a GPSr. I've been looking for some coords / datasets to load into my Garmin 60CSx (as well as some backup units, for others in the camp). Contemplating picking up a couple of Rhino's, too (even though I've already got WAY too many FRS radios) - just for the technology solution to "Where ARE you, Anyway??"

I've come across a few resources of waypoints, and map data - but mostly out of date. If anyone's interested, I can post the links here. Anyone have a source on more "current" data?

Just a few more weeks till the burn... see y'all on the playa!

    Peace,
    Billy

i have mapped it for the last 3 years though last year i did not take my gps out much. one year I got over 200 miles on my mutant < the Dusty Crack Wagon> should be some pics at Camp Hazzard tribe
I have heard of a map that can be downloaded of BRC. I have had no luck finding it.
I would be interested in your site.
I do have lots of waypoint around BRC and tracks.
I can send a doc to you of the brc stuff I have. you will need to have some map source programs installed.
definitely post the links the are available!!

          HELP!

I'm less than a day away from picking up the RV and heading out to the Playa -- alas, I am still without maps, despite the EXCELLENT information provided at the link above.

          Here's my problem:

I can't seem to get the provided .img files pushed to my Garmin 60CSx. Because of the large number and type of maps I typically have loaded on my GPSr, the optimal solution (for me) would be to get them into a format that MapSource understands, so that I could manage it the same as all my other map datum: US Topo, City Select, 24K National Park topos, tidal data. At any given time, I may have a (large) collection mix-and-matched of these various maps. Following several links from this URL, I found a hint that this might be possible - with a suggestion that I try googling it.

That led me to this page:

          vip.hex.net/~dougs/GPSSM/index.html

Which suggests a program that would accomplish EXACTLY what I want - adding these maps to Mapsource for selection and inclusion. Unfortunately - when I download and attempt to run the program, I just get errors at every turn. There's no clear "source" of this program, though I have sent a "bug report" via the provided channel.

So - okay, I'm over it. In order to get these maps loaded, I was prepared to go the "sendmap" route, and either A) live with just the Playa maps/waypoints, or B) manually locate and select the 100+ Topo and City Select maps I want loaded for the trip. So I download the latest sendmap from here:

          cgpsmapper.com/

I install it, fire up sendmap, and...

DOH! It appears to only support COM port communications to the GPS receiver - not USB.

So, I beg of my fellow geo-burners not already on the playa (or there, with 'net access ;-):

Does anyone know a working process to get these .IMG maps onto a usb-interface Garmin GPS receiver?

I'm itching to have these maps, and would hate to have to settle for the just the intersection/art location waypoints (though I'm grateful for those, TOO!!)

          So close, yet...

          Any help is MUCH appreciated,
          Billy

Disregard - I'm a moron (must be over-excited, lack of sleep, desperation of packing before picking up the RV after work tomorrow. Hectic? You bet. Ready for an amazing experience? Absolutely.

See you there - I'll be the guy with the GPS :-)

Anyway - realized I was using a deprecated version of SendMap, and once I installed the newest (2.0 ver 2.8) with USB support - all was well. Still have to go manually select all my other maps - but at least I can look in the GPSr or MapSource as a reference while selecting them.

            Enjoy!
